Dublin Insurance Is Required By Law
Having Dublin insurance for your car is not an option, it is the law. Having insurance protects not only you and your passengers, but also people outside of your car. You may think you are a good driver, but you never know when an accident will happen. We can’t always prevent those accidents, but Dublin insurance makes sure that you are ready for the time when they happen. Rates can vary depending on the driver, for example a young driver usually pays more in insurance than a more experienced counterpart. The reason that happens is because young drivers are more likely to have accidents due to lack of experience.
Can they charge young drivers more?
Dublin insurance is more expensive for young drivers. That may seem unfair, but the Equal Status Act of 2000 allows different drivers to be charged different rates for the same service. There are other factors besides the age of the driver that can be taken into consideration. Those factors include age and model of the car, color of the vehicle, driving record, size of the car etc. The price of the car also affects the price of insurance, as well as the speed of the car; the faster the car, the higher the rate.
Fines
If you do not have Dublin insurance for your car, the fines can be steep and you could technically lose your driving privilege. A suspended license can be issued for up to a year, and fines can get as high as two thousand five hundred Euros. If you have several offences you can actually be sentenced to jail for up to six months, and your driving privileges can be suspended for up to 2 years. The risks are simply not worth the reward, in fact there seems to be no reward for driving without insurance.
E.U. rules
Since 2008, Ireland started using the European Communities Motor Insurance Regulations. That means that if you are driving in any country within the European Union you must have your Dublin insurance paperwork with you at all times. The law also states that your home insurance company will compensate in case there is an accident outside your country of origin. These regulations ensure that you and people outside of your car even in another country are protected in case of an accident. That’s why your Dublin insurance for your vehicle is one of the most important things you can have.
